today

Last week, I decided that I was going to take a trip. So, I booked a flight to NYC. And I'm here now. Eating. Shopping. Strolling. Chatting with strangers. It was rainy and gloomy for weeks I heard. But, it's been sunny and warm since the day I arrived. Must be the changing seasons...must be me.

I've dined at some pretty amazing places thus far. The night I arrived, per a friend's suggestion I went straight from JFK to Estiatorio Milos where I had fantastic Greek spreads like tzatziki and tarama, grilled octopus, Loup de Mer and artisan Greek yogurt made with goat's milk and served with thyme honey from Kythera. *sigh*

Yesterday, I waited in line for an hour for a cheeseburger at Shake Shack. Delicious. And I had their Rocky Road frozen custard which was phenomenal. Then it was off to drop off hand-carried fruits and a trip to Century 21 where I bought many necessary and unnecessary clothing items. For dinner, we went to Momofuku where we sat next to a man I dubbed Hurricane Jake. We ate sugar snap peas sauteed with radish and garlic, spicy chicken wings and ramen and a rice dish. All fantastic. Hurricane Jake leaves for the Bahamas on Sunday where he will be for 6 months. He's a consultant on all matters related to hurricane evacuation and aid. He was funny, British and used the phrase "fuck all" (which means "nothing" to Brits) which I love.

Today, it begins anew, another traipse through Manhattan with one of my best friends. No specific food plans except for at 6:15pm when, by no small miracle, I snagged a reservation at Babbo thanks to the luminous Claudia.

Have to run now. I haven't set foot in Soho or the Village yet. Must shop.
